2009 Scholarship Program Winners
The Lockport Township Officials are proud to announce the seventh annual Lockport Township Government Scholarships. The township offers programs that provide for the needs of its residents, from senior transportation, to road improvements, to helping families in need and registering voters. The rising cost of education is an issue for many area families. Judy Batusich, Lockport Township Supervisor said, “This scholarship program is a great opportunity for the Township to support education and recognize outstanding young members of this community. Investing in our youth is an investment in the future.”

The committee set out to honor well-rounded students and assist them with their education expenses. In order to qualify applicants had to be graduating high school seniors with a 2.5 GPA. Candidates also needed to demonstrate their involvement in school, extra-curricular and work related activities. They were also required to submit an essay entitled ”What a College Education means to me”.

Four scholarships in the amount of $1000 were awarded at Lockport Township High School Academic Awards Night on April 30, 2009..

Mosquito Control

Lockport Township implemented a mosquito control program many years ago.  The township has a contract with “Clarke Environmental” to provide frequent scheduled applications of safe and effective mosquito control for the comfort and health of our residents.  Last year’s outbreak of the west nile virus prompted our elected officials to authorize Clarke Environmental to provide additional applications as a precaution.  We will again be proactive in controlling the mosquito population in Lockport Township.

To obtain information regarding the mosqito control application such as the dates of the applications or to report excess mosquito sitings please contact the Clarke Mosquito hotline toll free at (800)942-2555.

Outdoor Warning Siren System

It has been proven time and time again that early warning in the event of an emergency save lives.  The desire to provide immediate warning for residents has prompted several communities within Lockport Township to join together to improve the warning system here.

Since our last newsletter was published two additional warning sirens have been installed in the City of Crest Hill within Lockport Township.  There is a new siren located at the Corner of Oakland Avenue and Caton Farm Road. Another is located near a Lockport Township Park District baseball field adjacent to Richland School.

In the event of severe weather this early warning system could be life saving for families in the area and specifically to the children that use the baseball park and attend Richland School.
